The Museum proposes, through its educational program, to collaborate with schools in the preparation of specific plans that will include activities involving and thus motivating students. These programs include syllabus content, and are active and dynamic. Students learn through their participation in a new experience.
Rock music and its history provide us with insight into social change, political transitions, the evolution of thought... Rock music, through its myths, its characters, its music and lyrics, collects information that can become a valuable tool for reaching children and especially adolescents in an attractive, original way.
The educational program of the Museu del Rock contemplates direct participation of teachers and pupils in both Primary and Secondary Education.
We propose three main activities that can be carried out separately or integrated into a didactic sequence. There arte three different moments for these:
"Before the visit, the activation of knowledge is stimulated.
"During the visit, we fill in the words with meaning and experience.
"After the visit, positive memories are fostered and learning is consolidated.
Materials are provided for teachers and students to develop these pre-and post-visit activities. We also provide programmes adapted to different moments in the syllabus.
As to activities at the Museum, we offer a guided tour, and a dramatized guided tour. Activities, of course, will revolve around the subject of rock music; here the new technologies are of particular importance. Teachers are provided with tools to strengthen the aspects of their pupils’ education they deem necessary to reinforce.
The Museum's educational program works on the basic skills contemplated in the syllabus. We work within the “transversal spirit” of the LOE through rock and the History of Rock:
Rock, art and culture: students will get to know, understand, appreciate and critically evaluate the cultural and artistic expressions related to contemporary music and rock in particular. We thus provide the knowledge, procedures and skills that will help develop the cognitive abilities of perception and communication in order to understand, appreciate and enjoy rock music and its history.
Rock and language: students will communicate orally, in writing and visual languages, using both their own body and new technologies, thus enhancing digital skills. In addition, the program opens the door to learning other languages, especially English. We thus encourage students' communicative skills in both their common tongue and foreign languages.
Rock, society and citizenship: the study of rock in school may help students to better understand the social reality, history and society in which we live. During their tour through the history of rock to the present day, students will be able both to get to know the myths that have marked the history of rock, and to understand social change and the evolution of thought.
Rock and information: the activities are designed to develop the ability to access and spread information; this is carried out through different means and media, where the new information technologies and communication have a key role.
Rock and learning to learn: the activities are designed for students to develop strategic thinking and the capacity to cooperate, effectively managing a range of technical resources and work techniques through meaningful learning experiences, both individual and collective.
Rock, autonomy and personal initiative: The proposed activities will promote the students’ ability to imagine, develop and evaluate individual and group projects with creativity, confidence, responsibility, and a critical eye.
